The Consortium Conundrum
One of the requirements for getting my MDiv is to take at least one class from a seminary other than my "home" seminary, and this seminary has to be a part of the Washington Theological Consortium.
Aside from the usual hardships of trying to find an evening class, this requirement poses a very difficult and personal challenge for me. Fact is, I have a very difficult time giving time, effort, and attention to a seminary attached to a denomination where I am not welcomed, whether due to my gender or my sexual orientation.
I am quite disturbed, for example, that Wesley chooses to associate with, via the Consortium, the Washington Bible College. This is taken from its web site:
Female Students
The Seminary believes that women are equal in value, worth and ability with men. Men and women were both created in the image of God and are both co-heirs in Christ (Genesis 1:27, Galatians 3:28, 1 Peter 3:7). From the beginning of creation, we believe Scripture teaches that men and women have equal value but different functions. In the church, God has reserved the office of pastor for men (Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-7). Female students are welcome to enroll in the M.Div. program but we ask that female students in the M.Div. program respect our convictions and enroll in an M.Div. concentration not requiring PM 602 Sermon Preparation or PM 603 Sermon Delivery.
I hate to take a course "just" to take one, which is what I think is going to happen with my required Consortium course.
