Asking the Right Questions and Having Resources

It cracks me up when you go on interviews and they "pick your brain" with technical questions to see if your resume is true or a pack of lies.

I don't claim to keep a ton of knowledge in my brain. (Not to mention, as I get older, it can be more difficult to access it.) What I do claim is the ability to ask the right questions and the ability to quickly identify resources to find the information needed.

Sometimes I forget about resources when I am struggling with one issue or another. Prayer, yes I always remember that. Reading the Bible and other books of wisdom, yes, I remember that. Sometimes I forget about PEOPLE resources. Maybe I don't want to bother others or maybe I am too stubborn sometimes.

My whole UU/UCC question, somewhat of a self-created hodgepodge of fear and confusion, was given immediately, sun-like bright clarity by simply talking to my friend James. DUH, she says now, how could I forget James has dealt with similar UU/UCC questions?

James 'splained it very simply. The UUA requires a UU internship. The UCC does not require a UCC intership. Hence, if I do a UU internship, then feel called to be a UCC minister, I wouldn't have to do another internship. But, if I do a UCC internship, then feel called to be a UU minister, I WOULD have to do another internship.

Well, my, my; that sure makes things a bit easier, eh?

Thanks James. You are a gentle man and a scholar. Not only can you reference information, you also have the ability to keep much knowledge in your head!

Hey! I found this! You say kind things about me--too kind! (But thank you.) Anyway, some clarification: in the UCC discernment process, you -may- be required by your In-Care committee to have specific UCC-related field experience. I've met people who transfer over from other denominations who are told that they do need such experience. However, there is no institution-wide "UCC internship" the way there is with the UUA. It may be different at the Associational level. We're in the Potomac Association, and the last I checked, there is more flexibility in that respect. But it certainly isn't as stringent as the UUA requirement.
