Can George Bush Put One Good Sentence Together?

Stephen F. Hayes interviewed the president for his book Cheney: The Untold Story of America's Most Powerful and Controversial Vice President. In referring to Mary Cheney, Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter, Bush said

"My only ask was that if his daughter doubted my tolerance to her orientation that I would hope that he would help make it clear to Mary that this is a--I was just worried about--the reason I'd federalized the issue is because I was worried about the courts' defining the issue and that we'd end up with de facto marriage that was not traditionally defined, I guess is the best way to put it."

It make me so proud to be Merican.

That's awesome. I mean could you have written that, given 20 minutes, and made it sound that convoluted. You really have to appreciate that amazing talent.

A couple months ago I got to listen to Bill Clinton's Ted Awards Acceptance speech and I was doubly moved--both by the content of the speech, and by remembering what it's like to have a president who can speak for more than 10 minutes without saying something so amazingly wierd, stupid, or convoluted.
